MINDSHIFT ATHLETIC SPORTS COACHING

The Mindshift Athletic program utilises Cognitive Performance Coaching to develop and grow mental fitness, determination, discipline and persistency.

The athlete or team that prevails is the one that has the mental clarity to follow the gameplan, undistracted by the noise of competition.

Often, I am asked: what sports do you coach? In my experience the answer is simple. The mental challenges athletes have are universal, from Formula One to Darts. The experience of training, performing and life are of course unique to the individual but the things that hinders our performances are similar. Beliefs, convictions about what, how and when are learned and can hold us in a position we find difficult to change. One of the most difficult things in life is seeing ourselves from the outside therefore working with a coach is key to expose our blindspots.

What is Mental Fitness?

Mental fitness is the ability to focus on demand and act emotionally intelligent. In the appropriate manner, in the appropriate amount, at the appropriate person, at the appropriate time.

When athletes call on me as a performance coach and mental fitness trainer to coach them to become mentally fitter the first thing, we start working on is how the person think.                                 

A bewildered look appears on people’s faces when I ask them: what do you think when you think? Unsurprisingly people are even more puzzled when I then ask them: And what do you think about those thoughts?

What we think is determined by how we think. And how much time we spend thinking about the issues that concern us.

In Cognitive Performance Coaching we put a new and different perspective on our thoughts and the beliefs and convictions we carry by firstly learning how to observe our thoughts.
